I have been working on some Christmas Decorations and so far I am liking the robins the best - they look like they have had more than their fair share of Christmas pud!

Upcycling
I have been fortunate to have been given several garbage bags of hand me down clothes for my girls. When Annabelle was a newborn we had to buy a couple of outfits for her as she was quite little and wore a size 00000 but after that she has mostly worn clothes that I have been given.
I am so thankful for the generosity of my friends as Annabelle had all bases covered, day-to-day clothes, party dresses, and even some designer labels. Children change sizes every few months until they get to size 1 so some of the clothes were only worn once or twice so they are still in fantastic condition, in fact I am now using them on our daughter Evelyn.
The one thing I have found that doesn't last very well are bibs. As they get used to frequently I have found the velco can wear out long before the rest of the bib, which is why I prefer the bibs that have studs on them - they're also harder for little fingers to try and remove!
So, what does all this have to do with Annabelle and Fred? I present to you my first upcycled rattle made from an appliqué on one of Annabelle's bibs!
I loved this little fella and he was in near-new condition so it felt a waste to just throw the whole bib away. Now I have a cute little giraffe rattle!
I have a few more upcycled rattles to make, once I can find the time, and I hope they turn out as good as this one did!

My Creative Space - 03.03.11
As we have a new little person in our house I am trying to make sure Annabelle still has lots of one-on-one time with us. While Daddy has been given the job of reading to Annabelle I have been working on her creative side.
We started with shapes and pictures cut from catalogues
I pre-glued the paper with a child friendly glue stick
voilà - the finished product
I also managed to squeeze in a bit of sewing time this week and managed to make another rattle - this time a cute little whale. I love the shape of his tail as it's perfect for little fingers to grip and shake, and of course he is lovely and soft.

woof woof
I've previously made a Scotty Dog rattle but I was recently asked if I made rattles in any other dog 'breed' so I got out my sketch pad and came up with the little cutie below!
I was pleased with the final result as I'm certainly no artist so I keep my designs simple. Although my doggie is of no particular breed he is definitely not a Scotty Dog - and his legs make the perfect 'handle' for little fingers to grip and shake!

Owl for Evie
As I neared the end of my pregnancy I realised I hadn't made a rattle for the baby - I'd been too busy making orders and adding stock to the Annabelle and Fred shop.
Seeing as we didn't know the sex of the baby I needed to come up with something unisex so I chose an owl (who doesn't love owls!) and being December I went with a Christmas fabric to compliment the red Italian wool felt I used for the body.
I bought this Christmas fabric about 15 years ago and it has sat in my cupboard until now as I wasn't sure what to do with it. I love the deer's and the flecks of gold that run through the fabric so I was happy to find a piece that fitted my owl perfectly, without having to cut off any of the deer's body.
Evelyn Grace was born on the 29th of December and I was happy to have my little softie in my hospital bag so I was able to place it in the top of her cot to watch over her.
Evie's first toy is a hand sewn gift made with lots of love by her Mumma!

Christmas Stocking
I haven't posted any crafts for a while - I've been trying to finish off last minute Christmas orders as they need to be in the post Tuesday at the latest!
In between orders I've also been working on a stocking for Annabelle as I left it too late to buy her one - all that remained in the shops were garish ugly ones.
I raided my stash of felt and fabrics and decided to go with a mint green colour, which is prettier for a girl than the standard red (in my opinion).
I bought a lovely Christmas fabric this year of multicoloured stars so I decided to cut out some stars and sew them on the stocking in gold thread, to add a little extra sparkle. I discovered some gold charms from an old untouched cross stitch kit so I added four of those plus some gold balls to add a 'jingle' noise and then to finish off I embroidered her name across the top.
For a first effort with no pattern to work from I am pretty happy with the finished result - now to buy a few goodies to fill it!
